Carla Parcianello is a professional dance artist from Italy, now based in Belgium.

She has a street dance background, embracing performative-oriented style such as Whacking and footwork-based styles like UK Jazz Fusion and House Dance. She also studied rudiments of contemporary dance (Gaga, Flying Low and Butoh) and physical theatre.

Carla is currently working as performer and choreographer of her own and others’ work.

During the residency at Bodies in Space, she worked on her first solo choreographic work called Capricciosa:

Capricciosa is a 45-minute dance solo performance with a body and many, many bloody birds as its centerpiece. We encounter the body of a woman constantly attacked by a storm of birds every time she tries to stand on her feet, and we witness the struggles she faces to reconcile with the situation she finds herself in. Will she accept being haunted for life, or will she try to wake up from this daydream?

The solo is a self-portrait and a form of self-contemplation. It reflects on the self in relation to the judgment coming from the world around us. The perception of the self is filtered through how others treat us, and the way others treat us is based on our self-perception.
